Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa Psi is a National Honorary Band Fraternity, founded on the campus of Oklahoma A&M College in 1919, and to date, over 66,000 students have dedicated themselves to strengthening their bands through individual and group service projects. The chief aim of Kappa Kappa Psi is to assist the Director of Bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm within the band, while giving the band organized service activities and providing our membership with organization, leadership, and social contacts.

The Beta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Arizona State University was founded in 1949, and since then has served the Sun Devil Bands while being recognized as one of the top chapters in the nation, having won numerous Western District and National Awards including the prestigious William A. Scroggs Founder's Trophy. Located on a campus with a nationally ranked School of Music and within a community that embraces the arts, our organization has had the opportunity to be actively engaged in the Phoenix metropolitan community. We have worked with several professional organizations such as The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, Arizona Music Education Association, Winter Guard Arizona, The Phoenix Symphony, Music Teachers National Association, and Mesa Community College as well as cultivated local relationships by sponsoring several local high schools in our "Adopt-a-Band" teching program, helping to organize and run ASU Band Day, maintaining an active recruitment schedule for the Sun Devil Marching Band, and assisting with the behind-the-scenes work that help the ASU Bands run smoothly. Our Chapter is dedicated to a purpose-driven attitude upon which our Fraternity was founded. The purposes of Kappa Kappa Psi are:

  1. To promote the existence and welfare of the college and university bands and to cultivate at large a wholesome respect for their activities and achievements.
  2. To honor outstanding bandmembers through privilege of membership extended as a reward for technical achievement and appreciation for the best in music.
  3. To stimulate campus leadership and promulgate an uncompromising respect through the medium of the college band for gracious conduct, good taste and unswerving loyalty.
  4. To foster a close relationship between college bands and promote a high average of attainment by the performance of good music and selection of worthwhile projects.
  5. To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution at which chapters are located.

Kappa Kappa Psi at Arizona State fosters an environment that welcomes all bandmembers who are interested in making the band, ASU, and the community a better place while enjoying a close-knit bond with some of the most talented performers in the nation.

Kappa Kappa Psi is a National Honorary Band Fraternity, founded on the campus of Oklahoma A&M College in 1919, and to date, over 50,000 students have dedicated themselves to strengthening their bands through individual and group service projects. The chief aim of Kappa Kappa Psi is to assist the Director of Bands in developing the leadership and enthusiasm within the band, while giving the band organized service activities and providing our membership with organization, leadership, and social contacts.

The Beta Omicron chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi at Arizona State University was founded in 1949, and since then has served the Sun Devil Bands while being recognized as one of the top chapters in the nation. Located on a campus with a nationally ranked School of Music and within a community that embraces the arts, our organization has had the opportunity to lend our hand to many efforts. We have worked with The Academy Drum & Bugle Corps, ABODA, and the Phoenix Symphony, hosting receptions and raising funds to put to use in the School of Music, helping to organize and run ASU Band Day, and assisting with a lot of the behind-the-scenes work that helps our band program run smoothly.

Beyond service, there is also a social aspect within our Fraternity that we also promote within the band. With events like a Band Camp Barbeque, post-game socials, laser tag, and ice skating, we are always looking for ways to make our band family stronger.

You don’t have to be a former Drum Major, or first chair on your instrument to become a part of Kappa Kappa Psi, a desire to serve the Sun Devil Bands is all that is needed.
